About Me

Hi there! I’m Ömer Faruk Günalan. I’m a creative game designer.

My writing journey began in secondary school and eventually shifted towards creating game stories and fiction due to my passion for gaming. In 2017, I enrolled in the Computer Engineering Department at Istanbul University to build a strong foundation in computer science, with a particular focus on games. While attending English preparatory classes, I dedicated myself to improving my English language skills and honing my skills as a game story writer, a hobby I deeply enjoy. This shift in focus and adaptability to new experiences has allowed me to grow and develop in my career. 

My journey has been marked by adaptability and resilience in facing challenges. To enrich my storytelling, I studied Sociology, Philosophy of History, and Natural Sciences, enabling me to craft immersive universes. Additionally, I explored the Enneagram and personal analysis with Prof. Dr. Turgay Şirin to develop realistic characters. Seeking to refine my techniques, I attended a scriptwriting and short film directing course at the Agah International Cinema Association, where I toon on the roles of Scriptwriter and Director on short films. To gain teamwork experience, I volunteered in game development teams, serving as a Creative Game Writer and designing game universes. Collaborating in a small team also led me to take my first steps into game design, where I learned to craft compelling game pitches and create GDDs as essential development guides.

In 2021, I started working at Rokogame Studios. My first project was Rise Online World, an MMORPG developed with Unreal Engine 4, where I served as the sole Game and Narrative Designer. During this time, I designed the game’s storyline and side missions. I created an engaging universe and designed activities and missions that allowed hundreds of players to enjoy the experience together without becoming bored. After that, we began developing a battle royale platformer game called Goody Boody (using Unity), where I was the only Game Designer. I designed various mechanics and levels for this project. Although we announced the game, we were unfortunately unable to publish it. My most recent work at Rokogame Studios has been on a MMOFPS game called V.O.L.T (using Unreal Engine 5), which has a Steam page but has not yet been released. In this project, I served as both a Game and Narrative Designer in the game design team. 

While I cannot share documentation from our unpublished projects, I am allowed to present these materials during interviews. I can demonstrate proficiency with several tools, including Word for creating story and game rules documents, detailed Excel tables, and draw.io diagrams for system designs. Additionally, I can create basic level and mechanic prototypes in Unity, work with Unreal Engine 5 using Blueprint and various development tools, and make adjustments in SQL Databases for structured and efficient data management. I also use Articy Draft 3 templates to explain the game’s overall structure and Machinations for developing simulations.
